What to do when your horse is sensitive to magnetic therapyUpdated 10 months ago

While most horses will respond positively or neutrally to magnetic therapy 99.9% of the time, there’s a chance that they might experience sensitivity or agitation. If this is the case, we recommend building up slowly. 

If you’re wondering what this may look like, here’s some advice we shared with one of our customers who's horse was sensitive:

Janie purchased the magnetic horse rug for her mare Queenie and got in touch with us soon after to ask this question:

‘Hello, I received my Magnetix rug thank you. I put it on my mare tonight for the first time and she was wired. Is this normal? Does it take a few times of use before they get used to it?

Whilst it's not very common, we do get the odd horse that's a little more sensitive to magnets than others. The key is if they are a little sensitive to introduce the magnetic rug or boots little and often. 

Here’s the advice we gave to Janie - ‘If Queenie becomes wired again, then I'd put a fleece or lightweight sheet on first and the magnetic rug over the fleece/sheet and see if this helps for the time being. Here is a link to our build up instructions which should help once she becomes more comfortable wearing it. Keep in touch and if I can be of further help, just let me know.’

A few days later Janie got back in touch to say Queenie was much better wearing the magnetic rug after her lesson.

‘She’s much more settled with it. I just spent time stood with it in my hand inside her stable rather than outside, and the day I had my lesson I left if over the door for her to just sniff etc. then placed it over her saddle and as I took her saddle off I placed it on her wither and then removed the saddle pad and pulled the rug over her back. She happily stood took a treat and started to relax’

We were really pleased to hear that the extra steps Janie took helped Queenie to relax with the rug, and we thought these steps would help others who were facing a similar challenge. 

Janie uses the magnetic rug twice a week on Queenie, and is also looking to use it for travelling to competitions.
